Killashee House Hotel | A Romantic Wedding Story with Astrid & Douglas

A quiet kiss, captured through the flowing fountain at Killashee’s garden

A Beautiful Wedding at Killashee House Hotel – Astrid & Douglas

On the 11th of September 2024, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Astrid and Douglas’s wedding at the stunning Killashee House Hotel in Naas. Everything took place at the hotel, and it truly was one of those magical days where everything aligned — the weather, the light, the moments, and above all, the love.

Bridal Preparations in the Suite

The day began in the bridal suite, where Astrid was getting ready. The room was filled with excitement, calm energy, and that quiet buzz that always marks the beginning of a special day. Astrid’s dress was truly stunning — elegant and timeless . When it came time for her to put on the dress, I stepped out of the room to give her some privacy. That’s when I headed over to the groom’s room.

In Douglas’s room, the atmosphere was light and full of laughter. His family was there, and I captured a few lovely moments — one of my favourites was his mum helping with the final adjustments, including pinning on his flower buttonhole. It’s always these little gestures that carry so much meaning.

The Bride, Ready in Full Glory

Returning to Astrid, she was fully dressed and looked absolutely radiant. She stood there glowing, and I captured a few final portraits before we headed to the ceremony. She was ready, and you could feel the emotion building in the air.

An Emotional Ceremony

The ceremony took place right at the hotel, and it was filled with emotion from start to finish. Astrid walked down the aisle by herself, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The way Douglas looked at her said everything. There were tears, smiles, and touching moments as they exchanged vows and rings. It was deeply heartfelt — the kind of ceremony that reminds you why you love this job.

Champagne, Gardens, and Family Photos

After the ceremony, the hotel staff congratulated the newlyweds and handed them glasses of bubbly champagne!

Champagne, sunshine, and a flying veil — a perfect moment for Astrid and Douglas in front of Killashee House Hotel.

We then headed into the gardens at Killashee, which are an absolute dream. We started with family photographs by the beautiful fountain — the perfect backdrop on a sunny September day. The weather couldn’t have been better.

Zip Line and a Rainbow – Couple Portraits

After the family photos, I hung out with Astrid and Douglas for their couple shots in the garden, and wow — what a fun session! There was a kid’s zip line nearby, and Astrid just had to try it. She jumped on, laughing the whole way down, and Dougie caught her at the end. Such a great, spontaneous moment — totally them. Then, right after, we looked up and saw a rainbow in the sky. Felt like nature was celebrating with them!

Drinks Reception and Warm Connections

Back at the hotel for the drinks reception, guests were enjoying snacks, chatting, hugging, laughing, and even shedding a few more tears. Everyone was so warm and kind to the couple — it was really beautiful to witness that kind of genuine love from friends and family.

Dinner, Speeches, and a Brave Bride

When it was time for dinner, Astrid rang the bell (which I loved!), and we all moved into the function room. It’s a classic, elegant space, perfectly suited to their style. After the meal, the speeches began, and one of the highlights for me was Astrid giving a speech herself — a brave and heartfelt moment. That courage and individuality really defines them as a couple — just think back to the zip line moment!

Evening Portraits and First Dance

Before the dancing began, we snuck away for some evening couple photos around the hotel. We went to the Snug Bar at Killashee (such a cozy, stylish little spot), took some shots on the grand staircase, and finished with a few portraits outside in the evening light. The atmosphere was calm and romantic — a perfect contrast to the fun and high energy of earlier in the day.

We returned just in time for their first dance, and after capturing that emotional moment, my day came to a close.

Final Thoughts

Astrid and Douglas’s wedding was one I’ll never forget — full of emotion, laughter, spontaneity, and courage. From zip lines to heartfelt speeches, they embraced every moment, and I feel so lucky to have been there to capture it all.

Thank you, Astrid and Douglas, for letting me be part of your incredible day.
